Small in home cattery means what exactly?
Well, it means exactly what it says! We are just starting out breeding Bengals and so our cattery is in our home. We are planning on expanding to only having two females and one male so we can stay small. We are doing it this way because we would like to spend as much time with our pets as possible! Yes, our bengals are our beloved pets and we want them in the home with us as much as possible. This will also help us to socialize our kittens and watch their development closely. We are striving to be cage free as much as possible. We understand that there may be challenges with having an intact male in the home, which is why we only want one.

Having an intact male in your home means he sprays! Does that mean your cat marks your home!?!?

For attitude problems or general comfort among all the cats, we use the Comfort Zone aggression and multi cat and spraying behavior pheromone diffusers.
As for the spraying specifically, we look at why and where Zuko will mark, and what led up to it, and how can we do things differently so he won't repeat it! We found that having many litter boxes and making sure we give him plenty of attention one-on-one helps a lot. Kyoki has her own private room for sleeping and having private time with just her kittens, away from others.
Another thing that helps is taking Zuko out for walks. We take him out for a walk in the evenings and let him mark places outside until he is "empty". He seems to have a better attitude and we wake up with out any new marks. YAY!
Zuko also has his own private outdoor viewing area! We enclosed our back porch and Zuko hangs out there in the morning and afternoons. Don't worry! He has a heated outdoor sanctuary and a lot of toys. Zuko comes inside our home at night after his walk and enjoys cuddles and massages before bed! A combination of all those things help keep Zuko from marking in our home.

Aren't Bengals loud and needy? Why breed them if you didn't care for that quality?
Bengals do talk a lot and yes, they need a lot of attention. However, most loud and talkative cats do better when there are more cats in the home. It tends to quiet them down a bit. Zuko is the loudest mostly because he will tell you everything he needs and wants in a loud way! However, it is not constant! He only talks when he needs something.

So why are you breeding Bengals?
My husband and my daughter are both allergic to cats. My husband suggested a hypoallergenic cat as a solution. I mentioned that it would be worth it to have one if we could breed them. My husband said ok! We decided on Bengals instead of Savannah cats because of the size and Bengals have a personality similar to what I have experienced with Siamese. Plus, they are REALLY PRETTY!!!! So... Bengals!

What are the Code of Ethics you follow?
You can find a copy of the same Code of Ethics with many different associations. The code is used for Cat Kingpin, Bengal Club, and TICA (to name a few). I will provide links to those sites as I hear from them that I am allowed to. Basically, I promise to take care of my Bengals and kittens. I promise to provide them with good living conditions and enough living space to suit their needs. I also promise a health guarantee on any kittens I sell and I will care about who they get sold to! That means that I need to have some communication with potential buyers so that I can see if they will be a good match for the Bengal as a breed, and for that particular kitten's personality.

Where are you located? Why Tri State?
We are located in Western New York in a very small town. We are very close to the boarders of Ohio and Pennsylvania so that is why we chose the name "Tri State" Bengals. Tri State was a better name choice than "Katie's Kitties"!
